The Guild's Accreditation Academy is recognised by BASIS - 3 points for each completed level being awarded on the BASIS prompt scheme for continued professional development.
The Guild of British Molecatchers is intent on establishing and maintaining a recognised standard for traditional mole control in Britain. The Guild’s accreditation process is supported and endorsed by leaders in the pest control and mole trap supply industries.

There are currently no mandatory qualifications for those who use mole traps for mole control in the UK. Through its Accreditation Academy, The Guild of British Molecatchers seeks to identify and give recognition to those in the molecatching community who are able to display skill in, and knowledge of, their chosen field of endeavour – molecatching in the traditional way by use only of traps.
Our accreditation process is designed to inform everyday working practice with emphasis being placed on consideration for animal welfare and pursuance of best practice in pest management thereby enabling accredited members of the Guild of British Molecatchers to offer a “benchmark” level of service to their clients.
Applications to the Accreditation Academy in order to commence or continue accreditation should be made by emailing accreditation@guildofbritishmolecatchers.co.uk.
Accreditation is open and FREE to all full members of the Guild - both amateur and professional.
Accreditation at the highest level as a Master Molecatcher requires the candidate to have suitable public liability insurance in place.
The first three levels are written papers that are submitted for marking online.
No time limits are imposed for completion of any level.
Levels must be applied for in order – successful completion of one level being necessary before applying for the next.
Level 1 (Basic) - 15 questions - 10 correct answers are required to pass.
Level 2 (Intermediate) - A random cross section of questions covering more in-depth topics relating to moles and their control. 100% correct answers are required to pass.
Level 3 (Advanced) – This level tests for a broad knowledge of moles, control methods using traps and related issues. 100% correct answers are required to pass.
Master Molecatcher. - A practical test in everyday traditional mole catching. Master Molecatcher accreditation is sponsored and adjudicated by the National Pest Technicians Association. This test is designed to identify excellence in working practice and may be achieved during the normal working day.
On successful completion of each level, the candidate is awarded a certificate and the candidate’s level is displayed in the appropriate area of the Guild’s “Find a molecatcher” web pages.

With any form of testing, if you know the answers, the test is easy, if you don’t, it is difficult. The Guild of British Molecatchers accreditation process is aimed at asking people undertaking mole trapping to consider their level of knowledge and to enhance it with some new study.
